Paris 2024 Paralympics: A Historic Opening Ceremony
Get ready for a landmark moment in history! On Wednesday, August 28, Paris
will host its very first Paralympic Games, kicking things off with a stunning
Opening Ceremony in the heart of the city.
At 20:00 local time, the Place de la Concorde and Champs-Elysées will turn
into a dazzling stage for 4,400 Paralympic athletes from 184 countries. The
event will officially launch 11 days of thrilling competition, starting August
29.
Thomas Jolly, the Artistic Director, promises an unforgettable show with
performances that will inspire and amaze. He’s set to deliver a ceremony that
not only honors the athletes but also brings people together from around the
globe to celebrate the spirit of the Paralympic Games.
This grand celebration will take place outdoors, with athletes parading down
the iconic Champs-Elysées and ending with a spectacular opening at Place de la
Concorde, surrounded by thousands of excited fans.
Jitske Visser, a Paralympic wheelchair basketball star and IPC Athletes’
Commission President, can hardly contain her excitement. She sees this ceremony
as a historic event set against the stunning backdrop of Paris.
